AI Team Lead: a training simulator for chatters inside Telegram
Elvisupdated 6 min read
Is your new chatter losing sales on real fans? Let them practice on the bot first. The customer here isn't real, but the mistakes and the feedback are.

The challenge
New hires on sales teams learned on real customers. Every botched conversation hurt revenue: a customer who leaves after an awkward reply usually doesn't come back. Experienced staff could give tips, but they couldn't sit next to every newcomer all day.
Reviewing other people's chats by hand also took a long time, and the score depended on who did the review. The team lead couldn't see what each person on the team was good or bad at until it showed up in the sales numbers.
The team needed a simulator where a chatter practices with different types of customers without putting revenue at risk, gets a fair score and feedback, and the team lead sees the whole team's progress.
The solution
I built the AI Team Lead bot in Python with GPT-4 and Gemini, and it runs right inside Telegram. The bot plays the type of customer you pick: a newcomer, a big spender, a fan who has gone cold or a difficult one. The personalities are based on real chats, so the customer behaves the way people do in actual conversations.
The bot hides the customer's budget and what they respond to, so the chatter has to find that out. The customer haggles, buys, leaves a tip or quietly walks away, just like a real person.
After the conversation comes a review: a score on six criteria, response speed, revenue, quotes from the chat and advice. The team lead sees every training session, the team ranking and each chatter's weak spot.
How the system works
AI chatter training: four customer types
The simulator has four customer types: a newcomer, a big spender, a fan who has gone cold and a difficult one. Each needs a different approach, so the chatter learns to adjust tactics to the person instead of repeating one script.
The personalities are based on real chats, so the customer's reactions are close to what the chatter will run into in live conversations.
Hidden customer budget and interests
The chatter can't see how much the customer is willing to spend or what they're interested in. They have to find out in conversation, the same as with a real person. If the conversation doesn't go well, the customer may just leave without a word.
If the chatter gets it right, the customer buys, haggles or leaves a tip. That way the chatter sees a direct link between what they write and the revenue.
Chat review on six criteria
After each training session, the bot sends a review: a score on six criteria, response speed and revenue for the conversation. Quotes from the chat sit next to the scores, so the chatter can see which reply worked and which one killed the sale.
The review ends with advice on what to change next time. Scoring is the same for everyone and doesn't depend on the reviewer's mood.
Team ranking and assignments for chatters
The team lead sees the team ranking and each chatter's weak spot. They can give an assignment with a deadline and a minimum score: for example, complete a session with a difficult customer and reach the required result.
For a fair comparison, the whole team can get the same customer. Then the difference in scores shows a difference in skill, not luck with the customer. Over the course, chatter skills improved by 60%.
What a training session looks like in Telegram
The chatter opens the bot and starts a conversation with a customer of the chosen type. From there it works like a normal shift: they write, the customer replies, haggles or loses interest. At the end comes a review with a score and advice, and the result goes into the team ranking. This case page has a short video showing how the bot plays the customer and reviews the conversation.

Chat sales teams where new hires learn on live customers and lose revenue. It also suits team leads who need to see each chatter's skills, not just the final sales numbers.
Project FAQ
How do I start using the simulator?
The simulator runs in Telegram, so chatters don't need to install anything. To connect your team, message me on Telegram and I'll explain how to set it up for you.
Can the customers be tailored to my niche?
The customer personalities are based on real chats, and the same approach works in other niches where sales happen in chat. Tell me how your sales work, and we'll discuss which customer types your team needs.
What is the bot built with?
Python, with GPT-4 and Gemini as the language models and a Telegram bot as the interface.
Does the bot replace a mentor?
It takes over the practice and first-pass review that used to eat up experienced staff's time. The team lead still sees every session and can focus on the weak spots of specific people.
